Swans at Nehi Lake

Description

A note from the Artist:

Once, while I was traveling home,
I saw an artist lift up a lake to study the life beneath.
I was curious so I stopped to ask if I, too, might take a peek.
“Of course,” the artist said, and raised the lake head high.
I held my breath and took a step below the surface, which looked just like the sky.

I looked under, above and deep into everything I found.
I had to tip-toe by some who were lying on the lake’s bed sleeping very sound.
All too soon the artist called to me and said, “It’s time.”
I took one last look around and thought, “How fine, how very fine.”
Then I returned to the lake’s shore and thanked the artist very much
for allowing me to explore where I could reach out and touch.

When the artist lowered the water knee-high, I knew that I’d remember this day. 
I opened my wings to fly, said, “Thank you,” and then flew away.
